ABOUT US

Pack 209

We are a Cub Scout Pack in Silver Spring, Maryland that is open to boys and girls in first through fifth grades.  We foster an open, non-discriminatory and diverse community, drawing largely from the area just north of Silver Spring's downtown.  While many of our Cub Scouts attend Woodlin Elementary, the Pack includes Scouts from a variety of area schools and neighborhoods.

Cub Scouts

Cub Scouts is for boys and girls in grades K - 5.  (Our Pack, however, does not host a Kindergarten/"Lion" Den, but begins with a "Tiger" Den for those in First Grade.)  Scouting gives kids the chance to enjoy the outdoors through camping, hiking, and playing.  Scouts in our pack have fun with their friends and family, race Pinewood Derby cars, camp, hike and enjoy outdoor activities. They also learn how to be good citizens and care for themselves, the environment, and others in their community.

Our Hosts

Cub Scout Pack 209 is chartered through Cissel-Saxon American Legion Post 41, with the generous allowance of facilities for meetings and activities provided by the Silver Spring United Methodist Church.  Some members of the Cub Scouts are members of the church, but many are not.

SSUMC is located at 8900 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910, and the Pack typically utilizes Fellowship Hall, below the sanctuary and accessed from the lower-level doors on the Ballard St./south side of the building, for monthly meetings.

Pack Leadership

Cub Scout Pack 209 is run by an all-volunteer set of leaders, drawing from Pack parents and dedicated members of our charter & host organizations.  Our Pack Committee is composed of the individuals below and the Den Leaders listed in the next section.

Den Leaders

Cub Scouts are organized into Dens by grade.  The Dens meet approximately once a month on their own, sharing age-appropriate Adventure activities that are recognized with belt loop/shoulder pin awards and that lead to the achievement of rank badges at the end of the program year.

Are you the parent of/caregiver to an incoming First Grader?  Each fall a new Den launches for first grade/"Tiger" Cub Scouts, and, as with Pack leadership, Dens rely on families stepping up to run their Scout's Den.  Of course, the whole of Pack leadership team will help you out as you get started and point you to towards online resources and other information to make the incoming Tiger Den successful.
